                                             Welcome!

We are a grassroots organization created to protect and preserve the economic, environmental, and cultural integrity of our community by preventing the construction of a slaughterhouse in the greater Ukiah valley.

Two distinct business entities have proposed building a slaughterhouse in the Ukiah valley, with plans to kill 50,000 cows, sheep, goats, and buffalo each year, or 200 animals a day. So far, the proponents have presented an idyllic description of what the facility would be like, that it would be run in a “humane” and environmentally sound way, and bring economic benefits to the area.

Citizens Against a Ukiah Slaughterhouse (CAUS) opposes these proposals (
Background) because a slaughterhouse is not appropriate for our small valley which is mainly agricultural. The negative toll it would take on our environment, resources, and quality of life would be significant and irreversible.
